Image Based Rendering in Computer Graphics

چکیده
The fields of computer vision and computer graphics are, in some sense, the duals of each other. In computer vision the goal is to extract information about a 3D scene from a single image or many images of the scene taken from different viewpoints, while the main goal of a computer graphics system is to generate 2D images (or a sequence of 2D images in the case of computer animation) from 3D data about the scene. The process of actually generating a 2D picture or image from 3D data is known as rendering. Since the 3D scene is eventually displayed on a 2D monitor or screen, the role of rendering in the overall graphics pipeline is a fundamental one. Traditionally, a description of the 3D scene being rendered is provided by a detailed and complex model of the scene. Image based rendering (IBR) is a relatively recent and evolving technique in which the image of a scene from a particular viewpoint is generated not from a model, but from a set of images taken from different viewpoints [4 ]. This is closely related to the problem of structure from motion in computer vision, where the goal is to obtain 3D shape information about an object from multiple views of the object. Thus, it is not surprising that the techniques used to perform image based rendering are similar to those found in computer vision and specifically those used to solve the structure from motion problem. In order to better understand the techniques used in IBR, a brief description of the structure from motion problem in computer vision along with an overview of rendering in computer graphics is provided next.

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملA Review of Image-based Rendering Techniques
In this paper, we survey the techniques for image-based rendering. Unlike traditional 3D computer graphics in which 3D geometry of the scene is known, image-based rendering techniques render novel views directly from input images. Previous image-based rendering techniques can be classified into three categories according to how much geometric information is used: rendering without geometry, ren...
متن کاملDirectional Stroke Width Transform to Separate Text and Graphics in City Maps
One of the complex documents in the real world is city maps. In these kinds of maps, text labels overlap by graphics with having a variety of fonts and styles in different orientations. Usually, text and graphic colour is not predefined due to various map publishers. In most city maps, text and graphic lines form a single connected component. Moreover, the common regions of text and graphic lin...
متن کاملImage-Based Modeling and Rendering Techniques: A Survey
A recent convergence of computer graphics and computer vision has produced a set of techniques collectively known as image-based modeling and rendering (IBMR). Image-based modeling refers to the use of images to drive the reconstruction of 3D models. In the case of image-based rendering, the goal is to achieve more realistic and faster renderings and to simplify the modeling task by using image...
متن کاملAdaptive Parameter Control for Image Moment-based Painterly Rendering
The nonphotorealistic rendering is recognized as one of the major topics in the recent computer graphics society. The general issue in this research area is achieving methods for imitating the artists’ rendering styles, such as oil-paintings, technical illustration, etc. The painterly rendering is one of the nonphotorealstic rendering methods dealing with the effects as the oil-paintings. It is...
